Bespoke oak frame work
Porches, garden rooms, extensions and exposed frames in green oak
An oak-framed garden room does something no blockwork room does: it gives you a vaulted, braced, honestly structural ceiling to sit under. Our own project photographs show exactly that — a full oak frame with curved braces carrying a vaulted ceiling, glazed between the posts to the garden.
We take oak work from the smallest porch up to complete oak-framed extensions, and we'll be straightforward with you about how green oak behaves as it dries: it moves, it checks, and it darkens. That's the material doing what it should.
Porches and canopies
The most common way into oak frame, and the one that changes a plain elevation most. Posts on pad foundations or stone bases, jointed frame, and a roof that ties into the existing without looking bolted on.
Oak-framed extensions and garden rooms
A full frame of posts, beams, braces and trusses, infilled with glazing and insulated panels or blockwork, and roofed to a modern insulation standard so the room is usable in a Yorkshire January — not just in June.
Exposed frames in existing buildings
Feature trusses, beams and braces within barn conversions and renovations, including repairs and splices to existing historic frames where the original timber is sound enough to keep.
Glazing to oak
Glazing directly to a frame that will move needs the right junctions and seals. Done properly you get frameless-looking glass between the posts; done badly you get draughts and cracked sealant within a year.
